Research goal - development of scientific and technological bases of low-inertia late modifying processes of iron-carbon melts, providing prevention of cementite phase formation at crystallization, high degree of graphite spheroidization, structure refinement, increasing of technological, physical, mechanical and special properties of ductile iron castings. Research methods - thermodynamic, thermokinetic, metallographic research; structure-phase, x-ray, simultaneous thermal analysis, mechanical tests. Mechanisms and regularities of melting kinetics of FeSiMg ligatures in high-carbon melts are established. Phase composition of the studied modifiers and its influence on the temperature and kinetic modes of melting, diffusion of elements in the contact zone with the melt are defined . Speed of modifiers melting is determined by their composition, the thermophysical properties, physical and chemical processes in the contact zone with the melt, the diffusion change of chemical and phase composition of the layer that melts. After reaching in surface layer of FeSiMg ligatures temperature of about 1078 degrees begins melting of fusible magnesium phases. As result of the interaction of magnesium with cast iron components conditions for the formation and crystallization of the globular graphite are created. New fastmelting complex modifying alloys, which provide obtaining of ductile iron (DI) thin-walled castings without chill are developed . The parameters of low-inertia modifying processes with developed alloys in small metal consumption moulds for obtaining of high-ductility DI of increased strength are determined.
