Methods: hybridization, chemical mutagenesis, variety trial, assessments, selection, genetic and statistical analysis. Source material by combinative and mutation breeding was created; selection value of obtained millet hybrids and mutants was determined by basic economic- valuable features as a result of investigations of their adaptive and immunological properties, including drought tolerance and resistance to different smut races. Adaptive capacity and stability of 50 variety samples to drought were determined. Sources of traits were isolated by the results of complex evaluation. In 2011 a trait quality collection, which has 50 variety samples, including varieties-standards of eighteen traits was generated and submitted to the National Center of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine. As of 2011 the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine recommended the millet variety Kozatske for growing in all the zones of Ukrainian. In 2012 the millet variety Sonechko slobidske with the yield capacity exceeding that of the standard varieties by 0.3-0.45 t/ha, which has high quality grain and groats and is suitable for growing in all the regions of Ukraine, was created and submitted to the state variety trial. The fodder value of millet varieties was defined; sources with high yield of green mass and hay and increased quality indices were isolated. In 2013 the millet variety Bogatyrske for fodder usage with high yield of green mass and hay and increased protein content in grain of 13.4% was submitted to the state variety trial. In 2013 the millet variety Nezalezhne for food usage with consistently high yield capacity (exceeds analogues by 0.5-0.75 t/ha) with high quality grain and groats was submitted to the state variety trial. Over the period of 2011-2013 the varieties Korolivske and Svitankove underwent the state variety trials. As of 2013 the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine recommended six millet varieties bred in the Plant Production Institute nd. a V.Ya.
