Liquid crystal materials, including liotropic chromonic liquid crystals, were investigated as work media for lasing. Laser generation was detected and laser modes were studied in cholesteric drops doped with fluorescent dye and dispersed in isotropic liquid. We found that, depending on the pitch of twist, ie, on the spectral position of PhBG band, in cholesteric drops can be realized one whispered gallery mode or two laser modes: whispered gallery mode and PhBG one. The estimation of the energy thresholds of these modes was carried out.
