To clarify the functional significance of river oxbow in the development of transboundary ecological corridors it was applied a new approach based on the integrated study of biotic elements river hydroecosystems. For the first it was established data base of species diversity Western Bug river oxbow lakes, depending on the level of anthropogenic press. It includes the biota species list with indicating of background, rare, endangered species, the characteristic of the structural and functional indices of plankton, benthos, nekton and near water communities and their changes under the different environmental conditions. Recieved results are of good reason to assert that under the condotoin of meeting the environmental legislation, the oxbow lakes of the Western Bug played the role of natural spawning grounds of various fish and amphibians species, and also can considered as key elements of ecological corridors during migrations of vertebrates, providing them with protection and necessary trophic base. At the same time, oxbow lakes when combining with riverbed systems, promote the spreading of adventic species what must be considered when developing effective methods of limiting of their expansion.
