Vernadsky University popup.description2 A novel type of mode conversion in optical fibers endowed with the acousto-optic interaction has been unveiled. It allows one to generate optical vortices directly from an incident fundamental mode with the conversion efficiency as high as 100%. The possibility of a fast dynamical control over the topological charge, spin and orbital angulat momentum of the generated optical vortex just through changing the sign of the input circular polarization is shown. The method of vortex-intensity modulation has been proposed. It is shown that a helicoidal fiber with the twist defect can continuously change the orbital angular momentum of the output field from 0 to (in a.u.), being a number of helicoid branches. This control of the orbital angular momentum is achieved by variation of the twist angle. Besides, we have studied the generation and conversion of optical vortices in multihelicoidal fibers. Yet, the full conversion of incident optical vortices into vortices with the topological charge changed by ±( ± 2) is unveiled.
