Purpose: development of methods of evaluation of the physical condition of archival records for multiple criteria. Methods: systematic approach, analysis and synthesis, monitoring, summarizing, etc. Theoretical and practical results: the methodology will become a conceptual basis and technological content of the works on ensuring preservation of documents from the National Archive Holdings; will form in the branch the proper system to monitor the physical condition of the NAH documents; will objectively evaluate the origin and scale of the deterioration of the physical condition of documents. Novelty of the research is that the methodology is being developed in Ukraine for the first time and will allow for archival institutions to evaluate physical condition of the documents to ensure their preservation during their storage and use. Scope of implementation: requirements of the methodology are intended for employees of state archival institutions, archives department of state authorities and city councils, archives departments of state research institutions, museums and libraries, archival institutions of the National Academy of Sciences. Efficiency of implementation: the methodology is to lay the foundation for the evaluation of the physical condition of documents in the archives, to predict the dynamics of aging of the material basis of documents and to plan measures for preventive and operational conservation.
