Subject of the research - physical characteristics which describe the state and activation of retained methane in coal microstructure. Purpose of the research - defining of non-traditional factors which cause gas-dynamic phenomena. Methods: analysis and synthesis of scientific data on transformation of the coal molecular structure, theoretical studies based on numerical simulations with using methods of molecular mechanics, dynamics , continuum mechanics and optimization. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the assessment of the transformation processes in the coal molecular structure, and state and activation of the retained methane in the coal is for the first time carried out on the basis of numerical calculations from the view of molecular-mechanical modeling and input parameters which take into account intermolecular interactions in gas-saturated coal. It is for the first time when specific physical features of joint emission of methane and radon decay products into the mine workings are described; these features can serve a basis for developing new methods for prediction of geomechanical and gasdynamic processes. The findings can be used for estimating gas-dynamic danger of the rock mass at underground coal and gas production in order to ensure safe working conditions for miners and reduce risk of injury, as well as for developing new up-to-date technologies for the CMM extraction and reduce of methane emissions.
