Purpose: to work out the methodology to determine future prospects of structure and information opportunities for public records catalogues considering a gradual transition to electronic catalogues development based on the introduction of standardized formats for descriptive articles. Methods of the research: analysis and synthesis; method of system analysis; comparison; generalization. Novelty of the research consists in: was developed a unified structure for a descriptive catalogue card article (including in electronic form); were defined principles of indexing the content structure of the National Archival Holdings under «General classification scheme for documentary information in systematic catalogues of state archives of Ukraine»; were suggested the ways of gradual transition to electronic catalogues development in the state archives of Ukraine and retro-conversion of existing card catalogues. Theoretical and practical results: by the Guidelines implementation to enable efficient organization and structuring of archival information growing volumes; to combine secondary information resources of the National Archival Holdings into the common information space and to identify them by the subject in the global network; to ensure compatibility and interaction of all archival information environment elements. Efficiency of implementation: the research should provide public archives of Ukraine by the modern methodology of creating and maintaining archival catalogues in state archives of Ukraine using automated archival technologies. Scope of implementation: the Guidelines are intended for employees of public archives of Ukraine and other archival institutions that perform work on cataloguing of archival documents.
