Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology popup.description2 The possibilities of use of recombinant beta-defensins as anticancer agents were studied in vivo with the use of melanoma В16 as experimental model. We have tested 3 methods: 1) preincubation of transplanted melanoma В16 with recombinant defensins; 2) topical application of preparation of recombinant peptide in the region of primary tumor development ; 3) intratumoral injection of recombinant peptide preparation . Intratumoral injection of recombinant beta-defensin in experimental melanoma resulted in positive antimetastatic effect in combination with systemic administration of vitamin D3 to experimental animals. This effect could be explained by immunomodulating properties of beta-defensin-2 and positive regulation of this defensin in the in lung tissue of mice upon the action of vitamin D3.
