The influence of the composite filling factor on the process of aggregation and subsequent melting of nanoparticles has been observed. Qualitative difference of melting process for large (5-20 nm depending on the metal) and small nanoparticles has been revealed. The melting of large nanoparticles has the character of first-order phase transition. For small nanoparticles the hopping changes of SP characteristics were not occurred. The influence of femtosecond laser irradiation on the gold nanorods absorption has been studied by the pump-probe technique in spectral regions of SP longitudinal and transverse modes. Evolution of parameters of plasmon absorption bands is consistent with the model of cooling of hot electron gas. Significant enhancement of cross-phase modulation effect in the spectral range of the SP absorption band has been revealed. The irreversible nanorod shape transformation has been observed after long-term irradiation.
