It is shown that the main phase of boron nitride is hexagonal (a-BN) regardless of the method of synthesis. In addition, little-studied analogues of carbon phases - chaoit-like ("h") and fulleren-like ("f") phase of boron nitride as well as nanotubes, nanorods and nanopowders are formed. Effect of laser radiation on initial hexagonal boron nitrides leads to the formation of significant amounts of amorphous and the aforementioned phases.
