The problem is solved by means of field and laboratory studies of the most early Lower Paleolithic sites in area. Field work was carried out in Transcarpathia, Dniester, Bug, and Seversky Donets valley. For the first time in Ukrainian territory eastward of Carpathians at Medzhibozh the possible traces of human occupation dated to 1 million years were recovered and also for the first time the so called "living floors" under 400 Ka and remains of ancient hearths were unearthed. The earliest traces of human presence associated with Eopleistocene topography were recovered in Lugansk region. Unique remains of hominid constructive activities dated to 1.2 million years were studied in Dniester valley. Data on technical and typological characteristics of ancient tools and technologies for their production were obtained. Significant number of different types of paleofauna, soils, archaeological and geological samples are processed in laboratories in Ukraine and abroad. Micromorphological, spectrometric, geochemical, paleomagnetic studies as well as micro and large terrestrial fauna, fish fauna, malacofauna, pollen, ostracods and other types of analysis were conducted. Obtained data allows significant improvement of existing general reconstructions of natural and socio-cultural circumstances of initial human dispersals at Eastern Europe.
