Research aim is to create the catalogue of foreign magazines from the funds of scientific department of magazines named after Marjan and Ivanna Kotsiv, Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. Actuality of this theme is predefined by the urgent necessity of study of historical and cultural funds of library, museum and archived establishments of Ukraine, installation of their origin, structure and contents, study of history of forming and influence on development of science and education, and also introduction to scientific turnover of unknown until now source array of foreign editions. A spring base of research are funds of scientific department of magazines named after Marjan and Ivanna Kotsiv and structural subdivisions of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. Scientific-searching and certificate vehicles of the library, in particular general alphabetical catalogue are used as the secondary sources. For realization of the scientific work the totality of methods of historical research was applied: principle of historical method, historical and comparative, chronological, historiographic methods; library studies, bibliographic and historical book studies analyzes . During implementation of the theme a database about present newspaper editions in the fund of department - 2 100 names- was created and 226 names of newspapers, which went out on the territory of Lviv and its suburbs are described on the "Chart of bibliographic description", worked out in 1993 in the Research institute of press studies of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. Thus, volume of the pre-arranged works within the framework of research theme the "Foreign press in the funds of scientific department of magazines named after Marjan and Ivanna Kotsiv as a historical source of XVIII -the first part of ХХ- th centuries"is fully executed.
