The aim of the research: a complex analysis of the Ukrainian press of the stated period; identification of the key trends and regularities of its development and functioning, study and generalization of the press publishing experience of Ukrainians in the explored period. The methodology of the research: historical and bibliographical, historical and typological, "cliometri", biographical and historical methods of analysis of the press of 1917-1922 yrs. The results: historical and bibliographical database of the Ukrainian press of 1917-1922 yrs (according to 7 positions); historical and bibliographical descriptions of 852 newspapers and magazines for 15-volume national repertoire "The Ukrainian press in Ukraine and in the world in XIX-XX cc." (the fifth and sixth vols. are prepared); 966 titles of newspapers and magazines of the researched period are introduced in circulation; biobibliographical database "The Ukrainian journalism in names" is complemented with 670 biograms of the Ukrainian journalists, editors, publishers and publicists. The social significance of the research is that a comprehensive study of the Ukrainian press as a socio-communicative phenomenon promotes elaboration of objective and unbiased outlook to the history of the Ukrainian society in 1917-1922 yrs in general, determines relevance of media body, which was especially distinguished by political syncretism and different thematic vectors in the stated period, and which developed both in the native lands and in the places of settlements of Ukrainians in the emigration due to different reasons. The results of the work of workers of The Press Studies Research Institute: historical and bibliographical study "The Ukrainian press in Ukraine and in the world in XIX-XX cc.", scholarly articles of "The Collection of Papers of The Press Studies Research Institute" (Issue 1-3 (19-21), conference reports, and also materials to the encyclopedic dictionary "The Ukrainian journalism in names" (Issue 18-20) are used by academic and teaching community of higher educational institutions of Ukraine in the academic process.
