Speaking about hypo- and eutectoid steels the optimal one is GS with the content of carbon 0.81, silicon 1.23. Annealing ambiguously influences the strength of the investigated steels, while cyclic fracture toughness practically does not change to compare with the as-cast state. The graphitized steel which has a sufficient level of the characteristics of strength, plasticity and fatigue crack growth resistance which corenspond the characteristics of Class C wheel steels foreign production is proposed. The obtained temperature dependence of mechanical properties of investigated steels show that under emergency braking when in the contact area the essential increase of the material temperature occurs for wheel KP-2 and KP-T steels there are more favorable conditions for the formation of defects such as flats on the rolling surface as compared with the graphitized steel. It is found that at low temperatures (down to -40 0C) the graphitized steel is not liable to the low temperature embrittlement to compare with wheel KP-2 and KP-T steels. It is shown that the effect of the corrosion environment on fatigue crack growth resistance characteristics of the graphitized steel is ebsent as compared to the traditional wheel steels, which show a slightly negative effect of the corrosion environment on the fatigue crack growth kinetics.
