Object of research are criminal procedural issues arising in the process of activity of bodies of pre-trial investigation. The main purpose of the study is to determine the nature and significance of the pre-trial investigation and of the bodies which carry out, in a modern criminal procedure of Ukraine, as well as the search for effective ways of bringing the national system of pre-trial investigation in conformity with the Constitution and international legal standards. Methodological basis of the research is the integrated use of a combination of methods and techniques of the modern theory of scientific knowledge of social and legal phenomena. It enables to study the problem of the unity of its content and legal form, to carry out a systematic analysis of activity of bodies of pre-trial investigation in criminal investigations. In the project we used historical and legal method to identify regularities of formation and development of the Institute of pre-trial investigation; the method of system analysis of legal norms has raised awareness of the content of the procedural regulations governing the pre-trial procedure investigation; comparative legal method used in the comparison of constitutional, criminal and criminal-procedural codes of Ukraine and a number of foreign countries, which gave the opportunity to make concrete proposals on how to improve the provisions of the current and the draft of the new Criminal-procedural code of Ukraine; statistical method provided the theoretical justification of the provisions of the work records of judicial statistics and other statistical information, the study of criminal cases, processing and generalization of the data. Scientific novelty of research consists in the fact that the nature and content of the issues it is a separate monograph research of the complex of interrelated theoretical and practical problems of activity of bodies of pre-trial investigation with regard to the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine, and also made recently of amendments into the current legislation, the results of which intelligently and summarizes the historical stages of development of the pre-trial investigation for contemporary its reforming in Ukraine. Expressed the author's vision of ways of improvement of the criminal-procedural legislation, which will more harmoniously solve two related problems: increase of efficiency of activity of the bodies of pre-trial investigation - on the one hand, and the strengthening of guarantees of rights and legitimate interests of participants of criminal process. The results of the research (methodological recommendations) have been implemented in the practical activity of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine. In the process of research work is protected: 4 candidate dissertations, published 3 monographs, 2 textbooks, 5 manuals.
