Object of the research are typical objects and the surrounding landscapes of Europe and the Middle East. Subject of the research are spectral characteristics of typical natural and artificial objects. Research report consists of 4 units. The first unit describes forest landscapes of Central Europe, forest-steppe landscapes of Eastern Europe, steppe landscapes of Southern Europe, desert and semi-desert landscapes of the Middle East. The second section contains materials on analysis of typical landscapes composition and their spectral characteristics in the optical range of the electromagnetic spectrum. In the third unit the methodology developed by the authors for formation generalized background spectra of typical land cover is presented. Generalized spectra model, algorithm for determining the proportion of "pure" spectra and method of generalized spectra forming are given. The fourth unit contains materials on architecture of prototype of spectral database for typical objects and surrounding landscapes. Appendix A provides a hierarchical structure of the spectral library. A large number of spectra of typical landscapes samples measured during the research and their descriptions are given in Appendix B.
