For the first time we show an increase in the level of expression of thrombin and protease-activated receptor 1 shortly after status epilepticus. Suppression of protease-activated receptor 1 reduced the status epilepticus-induced death of animals, reduce the level of neuronal cell death and the probability of occurrence of interictal spikes and spontaneous seizures. The obtained unique knowledge indicates that the protease-activated receptor 1 participates in epileptogenesis and the receptor may be a new promising target in "antiepileptogenic" therapy.
