Steel oxidation leads to a change in grain size: more essential for ferritic steel and less for austenitic steel. Oxidation of ferritic steels reduces the tensile strength of 20 ... 50%, and reduction in strength correlates with the grain size of the metal after oxidation. Plasticity of oxidized steel decreases. In the lead environment the fracture resistance of oxidised samples decreased as compared with tests in vacuum, the largest decline is proper for oxidation modes leading to the maximum grain size growth. In the presence of lead oxide layer which limits direct contact with the melt surface prevents to embrittlement of ferritic steel. Higher plastisity in lead is provides by oxidation that changes the minimum grain size. Oxidation of austenitic steel leads to an increase in tensile strength and decrease in ductility as compared with the initial state. Plasticity of oxidized steel depends upon the size of grain: grains fall with increasing ductility increases. In lead the strength of oxidized steel although reduced, but remains higher than the strength of the steel in the initial state. Effect of lead on the plasticity of the medium is absent due to the protective effect of the oxide layer. Oxidation reduces the long-term strength ferritic steel as compared to the initial state, and vice versa austenitic steel - increases.
