The object of research: suffixial noun subsystem in the Ukrainian language. Objective: To carry out diachronic description suffixial derivational types of the Ukrainian neuter nouns. The concept of the research is that the examination of the causes and conditions of the formation of suffixial derivational means of the Ukrainian noun, the history of their participation in the processes of derivation in ancient times to the present day shows the continuity of the production of substantives with these morphemes. Suffixial derivation of neuter noun in modern Ukrainian language is a natural continuation of the old processes of formation of new words. The present research analyzes for the first time in the Ukrainian linguistics the suffixial subsystem of the Ukrainian neuter noun in the Proto-Slavic language and language of ХIV - early ХХІ centuries in a historically comprehensive manner. The analysis is functional-semantic in nature. Therefore, we discovered first those elements of the derivation system that would be relevant for diachronic (comparative-historical) research. The research allowed revealing the derivation drivers and the trends of the Ukrainian noun affix derivation system development from ancient to modern times. The research describes the dynamics of the suffixial derivational types in the Proto-Slavic, Old-Russian-Ukrainian language, the language of XIV - early XXI centuries. We traced the formation of each suffixial derivational type (in this period, the suffixes --ja, ство, -ище, -иво, -но, -мо, -ло etc.). It was found that the main functions of said formants were formed back in the Proto-Slavic period, when the suffixes were attached to the nominal and verbal stems and participated. Suffixes ja, -ство, -ище show high productivity within all periods of development of the Ukrainian language, and the formants -иво/-ево, -но, -еня, -а show lower productivity. The suffixes -ро, -мо and zero suffix turned out to be unproductive during all periods of the language development. Results of the research were used by the lecturers of the Ukrainian language departments in Zaporizhzhya National University, Melitopol State Pedagogical University, the Institute of Philology of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University and the National University of Krivoy Rog at such courses as "Історична граматика", "Історія української мови", "Сучасна українська літературна мова", in the author's course of professor P. I. Belousenko "Історична дериватологія української мови", as well as in the work of the Institute of the Ukrainian language, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in the course of using the research results in the academic publication.
