With hierarchical, faceted classification, and descriptive methods of and coding system the problem areas in the formation of catalogs Dnepropetrovsk museums were found. On the basis of the mechanism of implementation of customs control over the movement of cultural property to Ukraine the ways to improve the identification of submitted to the control cultural property were suggested, namely the creation of a single unified collection of artifacts from the international experience and the requirements of the International Council of Museums (ICOM); recommendations on changes to the card "Certificate for the right to export the cultural values." Results of research develop theoretical aspects of the registration and identification of cultural values being stored in museum collections, in the control of their movement across the customs border of Ukraine, during the investigation of stolen cultural relics.
