The energy distribution in the cometary spectra was analyzed to find possible gas emissions; the dust production rate of the cometary nucleus was estimate. The obtained results point out that the only continuum was presented in the cometary spectra in a range of heliocentric distances between 8.49 and 6.25 au. We did not find any emission lines exceeding 3?-level. In the spectra, obtained at a heliocentric distance of 3.74 au, molecular emissions were present above the continuum level. We identified the spectral bands that belong to the neutral molecules С2, C3, CN, CH, NH2 and ions of CO+, CH+, N2+. Quite noticeable emissions of CO+ led to the conclusion that comet C/2006 W3 (Christensen) was likely a CO-rich comet. Significant increase of dust production of the cometary nucleus was observed at a distance of approximately 4 au comparing to that one observed at a distance of 8.46 au from the Sun. The Af values, obtained with an aperture including the most part of the cometary coma, fell in a range of 220 - 320 cm and in a range of 4300 - 5000 cm in 2006 and 2008 year respectively. These values correspond to the dust production rate of the cometary nucleus within 3-5 kg/s in 2006 year and 110-130 kg/s in 2008 year. The significant increase of the dust production of the comet in October 2008, when it approached the perihelium, was in agreement with appearance of many emission lines in the cometary spectra, which we recorded in December 2008 during the following observation run.
