The process of obtaining of the pyrolysis liquid from sawdust using ablative pyrolysis reactor with a conical screw was improved. As a consequence of the experiments on pyrolysis of ground woody biomass (sawdust), operational parameters under which it is possible to get pyrolysis liquid in a pilot installation were defined. To utilize the pyrolysis gas, a hearth burner was designed for lean gas burning. It will not allow discharging of harmful greenhouse gases with a high global warming potential into the atmosphere. The characteristic features of bio-oil were determined. This led to a better understanding of the pyrolysis liquid formation, and its storage.
