Kholodny Institute of Botany NASU popup.description2 The key steps for biotechnological improvement of the perspective producing strains of the microalgae from IBASU-A collection were outlined. Selection of 87 green algae strains (21 species) from Acutodesmus and Desmodesmus genera was made. The main criterion was the pattern of growth on the different culture mediums with the contents of organic compounds (glucose and yeast extract). Diverse effects of the presence of this compounds on the growth of the studied cultures was determined. Growth of the species from genus Acutodesmus was stimulated, whilst in the species of genus Desmodesmus it was delayed (for example in the cultures of perspective biomass hyperproducer D. magnus (Meyen) P. Tsarenko). Selection of the 401 and 402 D. magnus was made and forms resistant to organic compounds were received. Growth rates and kinetic characteristics of the new forms were determined. It was shown, that the maximum cells number (B), specific speed of growth (µ) and productivity (P) in the all studied cultures were closely related and varied within the range: B - 84,5-98,7 mln/ml, µ - 0,9-1,2 day-1, P - 22,8-24,1 mln./ml day respectively. A patent search for an application for the useful model "Acutodesmus dimorphus (Turp.) P. Tsarenko - potential producer of biomass" was made.
