Purpose of study is investigation of bioavailability of toxicants of inorganic nature (Pb, Cd, Se, U, V, As, Co), assessing the level of contamination by toxicants of organic nature of water systems of Dnieper, Western and Southern Bug and Dnieper-Buzhsk estuary. Research methods - atomic absorption spectrometry, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography, atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, photometry. Key results - trace concentration of microelements was determined in tissues of different species of fish, assessment was done of bioavailability coefficients depending on the nature of the element, its concentration and on the forms of its occurrence in natural water. Methods were improved of determining organic toxicants in natural waters, namely organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls by gas chromatography with electron capture detection and gas chromatography / mass spectrometry with mass selective detection as well as polyaromatic hydrocarbons by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. Monitoring was carried out of organic toxicants in natural surface water of different rivers of Ukraine. The estimation of the level of pollution of the rivers Dnieper, Desna, Western and Southern Bug by toxicants mentioned was made.
