Research subject: the special features of institutional and cultural models of the higher education modernization in Ukrainian and international contexts. The aim of the research is to develop and create the scientific substantiation of institutional and socio-cultural models' principles of the higher education modernization in Ukraine based on a comparative analysis of Ukrainian and world leading theories and practices of educational updates. Research methods: analysis and synthesis; historical, genetic, typological, comparative and system analysis; expert survey, correlation analysis. Research work results: the methodological strategy of the comparative sociological research of the leading and relevant to Ukraine models of higher education modernization in institutional and socio-cultural dimensions was been developed. Conceptual framework for designing Ukrainian higher education modernization models based on institutional and socio-cultural contexts was created. It may be a basis for the optimization of national higher school reforming practical mechanisms in accordance with the modern requirements, European integration and globalization processes. Recommendations on promising areas of Ukrainian higher education system improvement were developed, basing on the positive experience of the world as well as the institutional and cultural features of the higher education functioning in society. The sociological diagnosis of the higher education modernization in Ukraine current state was made under the results of Ukrainian universities teachers' expert survey. The research results are introduced to the educational process. The research conclusions will serve as the educational policy conceptual guideline and can be used to improve the higher education management agencies and entities managerial potential, and for further development of the modernization of higher education in Ukraine scientific support.
