Karazin popup.description2 Isolated hepatocytes as well as extensor digitorum longus muscles of 3-month-old Wistar male rats were used. Spectrophotometric and radioisotope methods, as well as methods of cytology and statistic analysis were used in the study. The aim of the work was to study effects of nano-hydroxyapatite/cellulose composites on liver cell viability and functional state of hepatocytes and extensor digitorum longus muscles. It has been determined that nano-hydroxyapatite/cellulose composite scaffold (sample #4) was toxic for liver and muscle cells. Moreover, cellulose/hydroxyapatite composites (samples #4, 5) decreasing stimulatory effect of insulin on glucose metabolism reduced the functional activity of hepatocytes and extensor digitorum longus muscles. However, the composites which had not nano-particles of hydroxyapatite were not toxic for the cells. Results obtained will be used in the development of materials for regenerative medicine and maxilla surgery. Results obtained in the Department of Physiology of Ontogenesis of Kharkov Karazin National University on biocompatibility of cellulose/hydroxyapatite composites for bone tissue ingineering were presented and discussed on the joined seminar in the Department of Organic Technology, Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania.
