Object of study is the fuel sector of the national energy. Research methods are structural modeling of research objects to identify promising areas of structural changes in the fuel sector of national energy, analysis of statistical data on the topic of scientific research. World experience of fossil fuels production and use was studied and generalized. Assessment of the role and importance of fossil fuels in the modern economy and socio-economic development of the society was held. Tendencies of changes of fuel sectors in the global and national energy sector was estimated, forms of their interdependence was defined. High external energy dependence of Ukraine and signs of a systemic crisis in the domestic fuel sector was found. Detailed analysis of current methods of converting primary energy consumption in ready allowed to identify promising areas of structural modernization of the national fuel and energy sector, aimed at dealing with foreign oil dependence by structural modernization of the country's energy cycle of fossil fuels in Ukraine.
