Objective: To study the peculiarities of formation retrospective assets Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv, bibliographic reconstruction of historical collections and collections, create their registry and certification. The methodological basis of the study is general scientific principles of objectivity, consistency, reliability. In practice, applied basic and special methods of historical research: historical and genetic, bibliographic descriptive, structural and typological, diachronic, simultaneous, historical, systematic, historical and book study, special techniques and bibliography, prosopography and bibliographic reconstruction. Historical and bibliographic databases and reference search engine for practical work with documents were made, analytical study of historiographical scientific methods of research was provided as well as the formation of the service "Libraries names." Scientific descriptions for printed and electronic catalogs of oldprints, cartographic publications and library collections were done. The history of private collections was studied, particularly of those historical book collections, which became part of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. Register of historic collections was made, continued the development of the database "Historical Library collections" a retrospective of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv, 114 passports were created, 76 private libraries and archives passports were supplemented. Totally, 488 historical collections got their passports. Review and retrospective analysis of primary collections of old books, rare books and maps was made to identify ownership records and scientific and bibliographic description.
