The work contains scientific and practical foundation for purposeful selection of flame retardant components with regard to their synergistic interaction and ability to provide semi-durable treatment. Effective fire-retardant compositions based on Na+-montmorillonite, phosphorus-nitrogen containing flame retardant and water dispersion of styrene-acrylic polymer are developed. Considering the chemical structure of the flame retardant composition components the probable mechanism of thermal and physical barrier formation during thermal degradation of the composite structure due to the accumulation of silicoaluminum phosphate structure on the surface of textile obtained by the interaction of acid catalytic centers of Na+-montmorillonite and phosphoric acid generated by ammonium polyphosphate.
