The objective of the research has been achieved due to the elucidation of the views of the linguists of the XIX – the 30s of the XX on the structure of the operational component of the historical comparative method as well as to the analysis of the practical implementation of their views. We defined the period i.e. 1870s, when the linguistic reconstruction of the archetype, phonetic law and protolanguage in general became the most significant part of the operational component of the comparative-linguistic method. We investigated the evolution of such peculiarities of reconstruction as: divergent/convergent processes, prospective/retrospective character, systemacity. The tasks of the research have been performed thanks to actual method, the common scientific linguistic method for linguistic historiographical aspect. The scientific novelty of the findings consists in the elucidation of the principally new points to the structure of the comparative-historical and historical methods research and of the narrowness of their definition: 1) the procedure of the linguistic reconstruction, the interpretation of its prospective/retrospective character; 2) the analysis of the statements of linguists of the XIX – the 30s of the XX centuries. The project is an original and integral research of the structure features of the comparative-historical method. It should be mentioned that it is the first attempt of the complex investigation of the total components of the linguistic and linguistic genetic science.
