Purpose is an experimental studies of dielectric losses in diamonds and diamond-like materials such as CVD-diamond, silicon doped with gold (Si: Au), ultra-pure single crystals of silicon carbide (SіS), at a wide range of gigahertz frequencies and temperatures to identify the relative contributions of different components of dielectric losses, especially those related to defects, impurities and non-diamond inclusions. Used equipment is the developed by the authors of the original measuring stands for studying resonant processes in open resonators and a low-temperature radio spectrometer with a resonance cell in the form of disk dielectric resonator on whispering gallery modes, which is made of a material under testing. Accordingly to the work plan of the first year following has been done. Low-temperature millimeter wave radiospectrometer for measuring the dielectric parameters of substances in the frequency range up to 280 GHz and a temperature of 1.0 - 300K was modernized. The gas distribution stand was made, in particular, and PC-controlled oscillator to 140 GHz and temperature measurement unit were designed and manufactured. The reference samples were manufactured and conducted their investigation and calibration of measuring devices. A measurement of the dielectric characteristics of weakly absorbing materials, including diamond-like materials (CVD diamond, Si: Au) in the temperature range 1.0 - 300K were carried out. Based on these results an attempt to establish the basic physical mechanisms responsible for the dielectric losses in such materials was made.
