The thermal effect of the field-induced martensitic transformation can be used for magnetic refrigeration. Cyclic martensitic transformations caused by cyclic changes of temperature lead to increased electrical resistance of the martensitic and austenitic phase, due to multiplication of dislocations as a result of phase hardening. The aging of alloys of Cu-Mn-Al leads to the precipitate of dispersed particles of medium size 5 nm and spacing of 13 nm. Since these nanoparticles are similar in composition to the ferromagnetic Heusler alloy Cu2MnAl, annealing in a relatively small magnetic field (? 2kOe) leads to a change of the magnetic properties, in particular to the growth of Curie temperature of the phase, which precipitated during annealing.
