Subject - marital, childbearing, value orientations of the population, forms of marital unions, level of material security and features of consumption of different categories of households, system of state financial assistance to families with children. Goal - the study of contemporary socio-demographic and material situation of families, development of recommendations for improving the state family policy. Objectives of research: - To describe the features of modern socio-demographic situation of the Ukrainian family; - To show the features of valuable orientations of population; - To describe the structure of familial and reproductive orientations of population; - To identify the age-related, regional and socio-psychological differences of vital activity of different family types; - To assess the effectiveness of the state system of financial support for different family categories; - To develop recommendations for improving the state family policy. The social and demographic characteristics of the modern family, financial situation and living conditions of families in Ukraine were analyzed. Particular attention was paid to analysis of the transformation of family values, to valuable orientations of Ukrainian youth relatively to the family life, conceptual goals and objectives of the state family policy were considered. In determining the basic demographic and socio-economic problems of the modern institution of family the methods of structural analysis, compilation and synthesis were applied. The results of previous studies were used in the work. 22 scientists participated in the carrying out research, among them: 1 doctor, 15 PhDs.
