Topics of the study are: changes in quality and biodiversity of coastal waters and state of coastline and bottom slope of the Zmiinyi Island. Aim of the work has been to substantiate measures to stabilize environmental state of coastal waters and to suspend destruction of the Zmiinyi Island coastline based on experimental studies of long-term changes in quality and biodiversity of marine environment and the state of the Zmiinyi Island coastline. Consolidated report has been prepared on experimental field studies performed in 2013-2014. Based hydrophysical, hydrochemical, hydrobiological, hydrogeological, meteorological and other observations of the Zmiinyi Island geobiocoenisis characteristics carried out during field surveys long-term changes in marine environment quality, biodiversity of coastal geobiocoenoses, state of the island coastline and underwater slope were studied. Choice of methods for geophysical and hydrogeological observations to be tested under conditions of the research station on the Zmiinyi Island has been substantiated. Measures aimed at suspension of coastline destruction, improvement of marine environment quality and protection of biodiversity have been grounded. Recommendations have been prepared for introduction of new types of geophysical and geochemical observations of the processes causing changes of coastline and underwater slope; those observations have been incorporated into the work programme of the "Island Zmiinyi" research station. Proposals on application of requirements of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive during studies have been substantiated. Study guide on introduction of new technologies of hydrophysical and geophysical observations of the state of separate constituents of marine coastal ecosystem has been prepared.
