The object of study is the process of thermoelectric conversion of renewable thermal energy of "soil-air" system. The objective of the work includes studies to create renewable, self-contained, environmentally friendly thermoelectric devices with service life at least 20 years for power supply to various long-acting devices. Methods of research include mathematical physics methods to determine the temperature and thermal fields in disperse, thermoelectric and other media, methods of irreversible processes as applied to thermoelectric power conversion, method of equivalent thermal conductivity in disperse media. In the investigations, use was also made of computer simulation methods to find the optimal solutions when creating soil thermoelectric generators, as well as the methods of their experimental study. Heat transfer mechanisms for media typical of "soil-air" system have been considered. The influence of configuration of heat-exchange structural components of power supply on its operating efficiency in various media has been studied. The influence of weather conditions and the state of soil surface on the generating capacity of soil generator has been studied. New technological techniques of manufacturing reliable multi-element thermopiles with microminiature thermoelement legs, as well as new variants of power supplies using combined heating supply systems, have been developed. Computer design and optimization of renewable thermoelectric supply devices and their experimental verification have been performed both in laboratory conditions and on specially made testing ground. During the research, ideas of creating the alternative chemical supplies of renewable thermoelectric devices for power supply to self-contained long-acting devices with service life 20 and more years and power up to 1 W have been realized. The results of research made the basis for creation of 4 developments suitable both for industrial and domestic use. One development has been introduced into production, 2 - have passed industrial test. The developments are protected with 9 patents of Ukraine, and a license agreement has been concluded for the purchase of one of them. Feasibility study has been prepared for organization of design and development work according to the results of studies performed.
