The object of study is the processes of direct thermal into electric energy conversion in thermoelectric generators used in cogeneration plants. The purpose of research is to improve the operating efficiency of cogeneration plants by using the energy of exhaust gases for additional generation of electric energy by thermoelectric power converters. To solve the project tasks, the methods of thermal physics, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, physics of semiconductors and solid state physics, the methods of mathematical physics, computer methods for solving the problems and finding optimal solutions have been used. The effect of heat exchangers configuration on heat exchange quality improvement has been studied. Optimal of them have been found that result from a trade-off between the energy required for gas and liquid transfer through heat exchanger and the integral value of heat exchange coefficient. Computer programs for the design of thermoelectric generators for cogeneration plants and optimization methods were developed with a view to achieve both maximum efficiency and minimum specific cost. Computer optimization and design was experimentally checked on specially made test benches. The results of project implementation are of considerable social and economic importance. Owing to the use of thermoelectric generators one can increase the operating efficiency of cogeneration plant and save up to 5% of fuel resources. The use of such devices allows reducing heat loss into environment, minimizing its contamination through decrease of concentration of harmful substances Further project realization will contribute to creation of new workplaces at introduction of developments at the enterprises of Ukraine and more efficient use of scientific-technical and production potential of the country in instrument-making field.
