The aim of the project is improvement of tool life by controlling of the tool geometry based on finite element simulation. Finite element simulation was main research method. The material properties and cutting data was obtained from experimental measurements. Report also represents the review of FE simulation of machining operations. Generalising of current research originates the classification of modelling of macro, meso- and micro-geometry of the cutting tools. The techniques of FE simulation of turning and milling in rigid machining system with LS-Dyna software is described. Equipment and methods of chatter vibration diagnostics were also developed and described. The effect of friction on the contact stress distribution, temperature and cutting forces during turning operations were investigated. The role of the cutting edge microgeometry is shown.
