The research and management staff exchange between IMBG and its European partners was quite intense and brought positive results. There were 28 short term visits of IMBG researchers for scientific trainings during the last COMBIOM period. 7 scientists from European research centres visited IMBG to give lectures and establish good collaboration, to discuss the research projects and to explore the possibilities of common grant applications. IMBG researchers and managers also had the possibility to attend 8 international conferences and events organized by the partner research centres and other European institutions and organizations in order to provide new fruitful contacts for networking, receive additional information about fundraising possibilities and rising publication status. As a result, the sustainable cross-twinning and multilateral cooperation among IMBG and its European partners has been established. Newly settled 8 cooperating teams initiated promising collaborations paving the way for more important, innovative and cross-disciplinary projects. As the result, 8 Joint Experimental Research Programmes were created and are planned to be fulfilled during next years. These activities inspired IMBG scientists, involved into the project, to publish during the last 24 project months 22 papers in the international scientific journals and 59 papers in the Ukrainian scientific journals, and to get 20 international and 21 Ukrainian grants. During the last reporting period, the programme of trainings for IMBG staff, initially developed with the help of European partners, was realized. The programme was aimed at the increasing of IMBG capacity in international cooperation: the creation of stable international collaboration management structure in the Institute; training the IMBG scientific and management staff in the most important issues of the international cooperation and management of European projects in cooperation with Ukrainian H2020 NCP network; discussing the best examples of project writing and implementation; improving English language skills needed for the successful scientific communication and successful grant writing. 4 different trainings for the IMBG staff members were performed in IIMCB (Poland) according to the initial programme developed. The excellent results were obtained on the way of improving IMBG capabilities in international cooperation: creation of the Supporting International Cooperation Group at IMBG, developing its Action Plan and training its staff with the help of COMBIOM partner organizations; training the IMBG staff members in additional skills such as scientific communication and grant writing, language improving, that will equip them with adequate tools and knowledge to plan and execute their professional career. These results for sure will be essential step forward in achieving appropriate IMBG infrastructure and staff capability of developing and sustaining high quality collaboration on European and international level. IMBG Research Strategy on Biomedicine is one of the most important project results, aimed at further increasing the Institute scope, in particular its regional leadership, and at improving its responses to the socio-economic needs of Ukraine and of the region. During the previous reporting period, the IMBG International Advisory Board was created having the main aim to support the development of the IMBG Research Strategy on Biomedicine and adoption of its final version at the end of the project. Besides, the International Advisory Board is the important IMBG supervising structure, which consists of internationally well recognized scientists, who have extensive experience in project management and implementation, and S&T policy experts. 2 meetings of the International Advisory Board were conducted within the first project reporting period, during which scientific and collaboration capacities of IMBG were inspected, and the last one was held at the end of project. The valuable expert recommendations were fixed in the Minutes and Resolutions of IMBG International Advisory Board. For IMBG as Ukrainian research centre, each meeting of the International Advisory Board can be considered as the act of international expertise, which confirm the high level of research conducted in the Institute, give advices how to improve its management and what would be useful for IMBG young scientists and managers, provide information on recent international competitions, support publications and grant applications, and so on. As the first step of the IMBG Biomed Research Strategy development, the Institute SWOT analysis, which highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of its activities (Strengths -Weaknesses), and found both favorable conditions and threats for its development (Opportunities - Threats) was performed during 2012 and presented to IMBG International Advisory Board at its second meeting in 2013. The IMBG Research Strategy on Biomedicine was developed during 2013-2014 and then it was adopted by IMBG International Advisory Board during its last meeting in April, 2015. It presents the road map for IMBG showing how the achievements of the COMBIOM project will become sustainable and how they will serve further development of Biomedicine in Ukraine. Implementation of the Strategy is planned to be supervised in the frames of the following activities, which the IMBG International Advisory Board members foresee even after the COMBIOM project ending. Within the COMBIOM project frames, a number of promotional tools were developed and popularization activities undertaken: there is the regularly updated project website (http://www.combiom-fp7.org), participation in international and Ukrainian scientific popularization events, such as Days of Science and Science nights (May 2014, 2015), IMBG Young scientists conferences (May 2014, 2015), Round table of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and Academy of Medical Sciences on perspectives and applications of biomedical research (September, 2014), Horizon 2020 Information Days (September 2014, April 2015), demonstration of posters and oral presentations at 6 national exhibitions, different scientific and science-related Ukrainian and international events. Through the popularization activities in cooperation of IMBG with the National Ecological-Naturalistic Centre of the Ministry for Science and Education of Ukraine the information about IMBG and COMBIOM achievements reached many targeted social groups. During the last reporting period 7 presentations concerning molecular biomedicine, biotechnology and the COMBIOM project activities were presented by the project coordinator, Director of IMBG Prof. Anna Elskaya, and IMBG managers at the different meetings in IMBG, and also at the level of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Academies of Sciences and Medical Sciences of Ukraine, as well as during two EC - Eastern Partnership countries meetings (Brussels, November 2013, and Moldova, March 2014) and the Final COMBIOM Scientific Conference (April, 2015).5481 Product Description popup.authors Корж О.В.
