Purpose of the research: to study scientific-theoretical, methodological, organizational-legal and applied principles for maintaining audio-visual documents in archival institutions of Ukraine. Methodology: the general scientific principles (scientific objectivity, historicism, consistency, verification); general scientific methods (historical, logical, system-structural, structural-functional, analysis and synthesis, abstraction, modelling, classification); special scientific methods (problem-chronological, comparative, typological, retrospective, statistical); basic principles and methods of archival study (principle of comprehensiveness and complexity, principle of origin, method of functional analysis, structural method, method of single archival documents stocktaking). Novelty of the research: the scientific research is being carried out in Ukraine for the first time. Scope of the research: archival institutions that preserve the NAH documents, including audio-visual documents: central and branch state archives, the State Archives of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, state archives in regions, the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol, the Institute for Archival Study in Vernads’kyi National Library of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
