The process of implementing traction (braking) torque in the wheel - rail contact. The target of work. The development of discrete element method to predict the frictional characteristics of the heavily loaded contact. Methods of research. To achieve this goal in some sections of the work used the following research methods. The process of motion of two-phase jet of abrasive flow was simulated particle method with usage of probability. Theory, statistical processing of the results of the calculations, the numerical integration of the equations of motion of particles (Verlet method). Research of the impact of abrasive particles to the contaminated surface of the rail and simulation of hardening wheels with highly concentrated energy sources carried out by the discrete elements method (MDE). The experimental data were subjected to mathematical treatment (mathematical statistics, the method of least squares). Metallographic examination of samples from the shroud steel subjected to electro contact hardening technology (MCA), was conducted in accordance with Industry Standard of Russian Railway 1.05.008-2009 "Welded connection of the rolling stock. Methods of determination for mechanical properties, macrostructure and microstructure". Comparison of plasma hardening and electro contact hardening of wheel flanges were conducted by running tests of locomotives ВЛ10в.
