The software for calculation of composition of gases which one are generated by organic matter of shale formations is elaborated. It is positioned that in the conditions of sedimentary thickness in an equilibrium with organic matter there can be carbohydrate gases of homologous series of alkanes, carbonic gas and nitrogen which one compound a main body of " shale gas". Sampling of shale formations of some section of Ukrainian Carpathians is held. Potential of generation of gases for bitumen's of the sampled formation samples are calculated. It is spotted that gases with maximum heating value, behind calculations generated on depth near 5 km.
