The aim is to develop theoretical and methodological bases of modern encyclopedias on the basis of structuring reliable scientific information from all fields of human knowledge in convenient for the use, as well as in modern information format; to promote scientific researches and improve education in Ukraine; to popularize a modern knowledge among the general public. In developing the theme were used historical and comparative, systematic, structural and functional methods, cognitive schemes and traditions of encyclopedic researches. The content of the work is to conduct thorough analysis of the structure in historical retrospective encyclopedias, namely, the structure of Ukrainian and foreign encyclopedic publications, and singling out the structural characteristics of modern encyclopedias; to determine the principles of filling the modern encyclopedias on the experience of creating the most important previous Ukrainian encyclopedic projects and the modern universal and specialized encyclopedias, including their online form; to develop scientifically based approaches to the formation of modern encyclopedias’ content in the context of their structural filling in accordance with scientific fields and in the form of encyclopedic articles. In 2014, the scientific work was completed in the form of «The Great Ukrainian Encyclopedia» glossary, which include 67000 words and methodology for creation and updating the content of modern encyclopedias, guidelines for the preparation a bibliographic description and digitized copies of specialized encyclopedias and full-text versions of the original works. Scientific results are presented reports in the 1-3 stage and the final report. All results of scientific work have the practical component and can be applied in the fields of science, education, publishing and bibliography.
