The research subject is spatial and temporal features of the socio-economic development of Khorol district of Poltava region. The research purpose is drawing the complex socio-economic characteristics of Khorol district of Poltava region.Research methods are historical, comparative geographical method, cartographic, cluster-analysis, grouping.The features of economic and geographical position of Khorol district are characterized the quite profitable parameters relative to the natural and raw material resources, energy sources and adjacent administrative units. The district is located nearly the central part of the region. The most Khorol district's economic connections have the intraregional direction. The main factors of the socio-economic development of Khorol district are natural conditions and resources, industry and agriculture development, transport infrastructure and communication development. The natural resource potential of the district enables fully to develop industry and agriculture. Due to the high plowed land resources of the district the powerful agricultural complex was formed here. Among industry sectors machine building, food processing industry, and light industry are developed which are dependent on the region's agriculture. The transport infrastructure of Khorol district has quite dense automobile roads and railway network. Demographic situation of Khorol district is characterized the negative population natural increase, negative migration balance. As a result - the region's population is decreasing rapidly. In general population age structure the working age population prevails, but the population of older age groups predominates over the under working age population. The main problems of the district's economy was identified, the major ones are uneffective intersectoral connections, outdated fixed assets, difficult financial state of the most enterprises, decreasing the level of the workers qualification, significant deterioration of the soil fertility. For enhancing the socio-demographic component of Khorol district the follow steps need to improve, in particular the young families support, timely financial social aid to the corresponding population groups, housing population ensuring, creating new jobs and attraction the skilled workers from the neighbor region's district.
