The results of experimental investigation of heat-exchanger with compact placing banks of tubes installed in the exhaust gas tract of reciprocating internal combustion engines are presented. A comparison of experimental data and numerical simulation results of temperature characteristics, heat transfer coefficient, the Nusselt number (measurement error 5%), the Euler number and the differential pressure (measurement error 15-20%) in the gas tract of heat exchanger a new design were conducted and their satisfactory agreement was obtained. Methodology for the exergy analysis of the heat exchanger are presented. As a result of researches it was obtained the new design of heat exchangers which in comparison with heat exchangers of well-known designs have smaller dimensions (on 50 %) and mass (on 10 %), and thermal-hydraulic efficiency twice as many others.
