Purpose of work - theoretical foundation and research inspection of foreign languages (FL) teaching methods based on the competency-communicative approach and the establishment of guidelines for the educational process. For the purpose of solving problems and study we used a complex technique, including a system of coordinated teaching research methods: theoretical methods (analysis of scientific linguistic, psychological, pedagogical and methodological literature); the empirical methods (pedagogical implementation, monitoring, attendance and analysis of classes and analysis of teaching experience). The scientific novelty of the research consists in that: 1) the idea of the modern methods of FL teaching were refined and deepen, their comparative analysis was carried out; 2) theoretically proved developed and experimentally tested the possibility and feasibility of competency and communication methods in the educational process; 3) created the system of exercises and methodic recommendations for specific faculties of universities. The results of the research and findings can be used in the educational process in order to improve foreign language competence of students, in drawing up training programs, in preparation of the elective courses, testing and classroom training.
