Objective: to improve the treatment results of patients with abscesses of the brain by studying the clinical features, diagnosis and surgical treatment, clarification of bacteriology for the development and implementation of optimal treatment strategy using modern neurosurgical technology. Methods: clinical observation, evaluation of macroscopic electric connection light optical microscopy. An analysis of 242 cases of patients with brain abscess revealed microbiological features of abscesses of different etiology and pathogenesis. The effectiveness of treatment of patients with brain abscesses in the last twenty years was studied and a positive impact on treatment results of applying modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods was revealed. The results of treatment of patients from different regions of Ukraine were analysed. The diagnostic and therapeutic scheme was designed and implemented, allowing the differential determining of indications for treatment of patients with brain abscesses. Different methods of traditional surgical treatment of abscesses of the brain and their effectiveness were analysed. The results of stereotaxic and neuronavigation techniques in the treatment of abscesses of the brain were analysed. It was observed that the best results are obtained when using neuronavigation technology compared with traditional surgery.
