The goal is to improve the efficiency and quality of tolerant retrieval and record linkage in information systems through the use of model representations of words and methods for constructing a compressed search index in reference system and information retrieval system. Scientific and practical aspects of the methods are based on mathematical modeling techniques of object-oriented analysis and UML, the application of statistical analysis of experimental data to quantify the effectiveness of the proposed approaches. Scientific novelty: A model that includes a representation of words and an approximate measure of similarity between the proposed representations that have greater pre-filtering precision than existing approaches. The model provides a base for constructing a compressed search index, which allows mapping a word and all its forms into one index entry. Improved pre-filtering stage of the tolerant retrieval is developed by the use of words representation, compressed search index and approximate measure of similarity, which allows for more accurate pre-filtering before calculating the similarity between the words and increase the efficiency of matching records. The practical utility of the investigation is confirmed by the introduction in the document circulation process of the selection committee of State Institution of Higher Education "Zaporizhzhya National University" and the learning process of mathematical faculty of State Institution of Higher Education "Zaporizhzhya National University" (Acts of the introduction of 23 and 24 May 2013).
