Research methods - field, vegetation and laboratory experiments and statistical analysis of the experimental data. Theoretical and practical results. Created and studied a large number of clones, hybrids and self-pollinated lines on the basis of a long dormant period (vegetation). Identified genotypes that combine a short period of rest with high productivity, a significant portion of the harvest that forage in the first and second mowing exceed the standard a 100%.Among the varieties most resistant to root rot appeared Zarnitsa, Mriya odesskaya, Eva, Luba, Rosinka, Laska, Nishnist’, Nasoloda and among the promising material 9 rooms. The whole experience there was a decline in the productivity of infectious background, which averaged 6.5%. The high level of stability of the alfalfa varieties, selection of GIS, and a sharp decline in productivity varieties Roxolana on infectious background, which amounted to 51.2%. The technology of growing alfalfa seed purposes in the arid conditions of the south of Ukraine. It was found that the dry conditions of the Odessa region, the most productive crops with wide aisles 45 and 60 cm with a seeding rate of 0.5-1.0 mln. germinating seeds per hectare.During the reporting period created and transferred to the state variety testing three varieties of alfalfa Nasoloda (2011), Golubka and Lada (2015). Varieties Nasoloda and Golubka characterized by a short period of rest and an extended growing season in the fall, Lada - also determined by exceptional drought.New varieties due to the short period of rest, lengthening growing season in the fall and a high drought tolerance will be high demand for agricultural producers in Ukraine and will occupy more than 25 000 Ha. Due to only an additional fee of dry matter per year, they will make a profit of 1.5-2.0 mln. UAH, and seed crops - 3.0-3.5 mln. UAH income.
