Purpose of the research – development of resistant to moisture shortage and high air temperature soybean cultivars under the environment of the South of Ukraine. Methods of research: field, laboratory, statistic calculations, hybridization, phonological observations. Theoretical and practical results. Under the droughty environment of the period from 2011 to 2015 we determined several drought- resistant varieties among released cultivars and collection genotypes. The identified well-adapted genotypes are recommended to be involved in breeding programmes. Over 50 hybrid combinations have been obtained via artificial crosses and natural pollination. Several selection lines with high protein content, large seeds and high yield have been developed. To obtain high protein genotypes, parental varieties for crosses must have high or medium protein content. Four drought-resistant cultivars with high protein content were passed to the state testing. At the same time, 4 else drought-resistant cultivars with high protein content, nitrogen-fixing ability and disease resistance were registered in the State register of Ukraine. The scientific newness. During the 5-year period four soybean varieties (Antares, Rusa, Feniks and Symfoniya) with high level of adaptability under droughty growing conditions, optimum vegetation period, high protein content in the seeds (39-41%), able to fix large amounts of nitrogen from the air, were registered in the State register of Ukraine. Their growing techniques have been developed and recommended for agriculture. The effect of introduction. Growing the new soybean varieties will increase the yield for 16% in average and improve seed quality. Area of using. Collective farms and farms in the Steppe and Forest-Steppe zones of Ukraine.
